Neck Pain

Overview

Neck pain is a common condition that can affect people of all ages and activity levels. It may develop suddenly or gradually and is often influenced by a combination of posture, movement habits, muscle tension, workload, stress, and previous injury, rather than a single cause.

Most neck pain is non-specific, meaning there is no serious underlying structural problem. In some cases, symptoms may be related to joint stiffness, muscle strain, nerve irritation, or prolonged static positions such as desk work or device use.

Common symptoms include:

  • Stiffness or reduced neck movement
  • Aching or sharp pain in the neck or upper shoulders
  • Headaches, often starting at the base of the skull
  • Pain that may spread into the shoulder, upper back, or arm
  • Muscle tightness or fatigue

Physiotherapy Management

Physiotherapy management focuses on:

  • Reducing pain and improving movement confidence
  • Restoring neck mobility and strength
  • Addressing posture, work setup, and activity habits
  • Improving shoulder and upper back support
  • Supporting a gradual return to normal activity and exercise
